Things that teenagers hide from their parents.
As a parent you might be noticing that your child behaviour is starting to change and it is bothering you as a parent.
As a parent you are starting to notice that your child who is a teenager she/he doesn't talk about the things she/he used to tell you about, she hides some other things from you.
Your child might be starting to show some kind of behaviour like being grumpy all the time and they don't usually spend time with you as a parent like before but you shouldn't be worried because your child might be going through his/her puberty stage.
Here are the things that most teenagers hide from their parents.
1. Being bullied or Mistreated at school.
Yes, in most cases teenagers feel some kind of embarrassed when they tell their parents that they are being bullied. What they are embarrassed about is you as a parent you might make a scene to the school or to the learner that is abusing your child, for an example confronting the learner that bullies your child, in most cases at school learners like to embarrass the victim of the bully like claiming that he is a "mama's boy he cannot fight battles for himself".
So in order to deal with that you should meet up with the school principal and explain it to him, the challenge that your child faces at school.
2. Bad Peer pressure from friends.
As a person on earth in order to be happy you've got to have friends but what if the friends that you want to have for the rest of your life they don't want the same to you.
In most cases teenagers experience peer pressure when they are entering the higher grade of the school which some might call it as "High school".
What is Peer pressure?
It is when you are influenced by other people to act in a certain way.
How does peer pressure affects teenagers?
As I have mentioned before high school is a bad place for your child especially if you child is curious and an explorer because they might explore bad things but what can you do because your child needs to go to school in order to be successful in life.
All I can say is peer pressure in high school it can affect your child positively and negatively.
What I mean by positively is, in a class room the will always be a competition like learners comparing their intelligence with others and that can help your child improve his/her grades in a good way.
Negatively - In most cases pupils enter at the higher grade they already have experience of using dangerous substances like alcohol and drugs. Pupils get inspired easily by bad things and they might think using these dangerous substances is a good thing but they don't know consequences and danger of those substances.
3. Enjoying adult content or substances.
Buying a TV or cell phone for your child you might think that it's good, while it is good and bad for your child. I know buying your child a cellphone because you want to call, WhatsApp, message your child when they are not near you but you are not seeing everything that your child does with his/her cellphone.
About TV, many debates happened in the past years about the following topics:
- Should alcohol advert be broadcasted on TV?
- Should movies or soaps that have a strong adult theme be played on TV?
About Cellphones, many debates happened in the past years about the following topics:
- Should teenagers see adult content on social media networks like Facebook, twitter, Instagram and YouTube?
- Why the is no age restrictions when someone post his/her picture naked on social media like Facebook?
About TV
Should alcohol advert be broadcasted on TV?
As I have mentioned before your child might get inspired easily by bad things, so it's up to you as a parent or guardian to talk with your child about the danger of alcohol and drugs because alcohol companies are paying big amount of revenue to show their ads on that certain broadcasting company or channel and they won't stop showing their ads on those broadcasting channels.
Should movies or soaps that have a strong adult theme be played on TV?
In most broadcasting channels before a movie or a tv soap plays you will be warned about the age that the movie or TV soap is suitable for, you will hear a message saying "This movie is not suitable for viewers under the age of 18... viewer discretion is advised"
If you have a child under the age 18, you should not let him/her watch that movie but "What if he/she watches it while I'm not there"?
In some other satellite television like DSTV, they allow you as a parent to block a certain program based on to their PG Ratings. It allows you to set a password so that when your child or someone else wants to view a certain program that's more than your PG ratings allowance it will want a password in order to continue.
About Cellphones
Should teenagers see adult content on social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube?
Unlike some other social media platforms, YouTube blocks a viewer who is not suitable to watch the content of that certain video allowance, but in order for YouTube to do that you must create a Google account for your child as a parent.
Why the is no age restrictions when someone post his/her photo naked on social media like on Facebook?
Unfortunately Facebook has not invented that yet, but Facebook allows you to report to them when you see something bothering you.
